Anyone who had the pleasure of seeing this film doesn’t know the meaning of the word “pleasure.” What an inept piece of pompous trash! It is like Plato’s Symposium for morons. Poor Julie Delpy looks like she hasn’t a clue as to what she should do, and I take this as a sign of her intelligence. It’s a great big piece of empty posturing.Tuesday Weld’s accent is all over the place, but I guess we’re supposed to think she’s just an empty old bag with no substance. Or how about the trembling Neve Campbell who does one shtick throughout but we’re somehow supposed to think she’s wiser at the end. And then there’s Dermot Mulr9ony with deep problems with his dad. Give me a break. What’s amazing is that this kind of stuff is supposed to be fuckable! Good God, hasn’t anyone out there met anyone and had something happen between you? |

The director Mauro Bolognini has some experience of historical movies and you can see this in this late-Renaissance movie set at the canals of Venice and he has also experience with love-stories. This movie written with the help of Massimo Franciosa lacks the grandeur of a Luchino Visconti but at no moment one gets the impression of being bored. Laura Antonelli is very good as Angela and she looks like an angel just as in the other movie L’Innocent (1976) but why is she closing the windows of her apartment when her lover (Jason Connery - he has no name in the movie!) is throwing stones into her room? The mores of the time when the doge is allowing the prostitutes to show their breasts, and the young noblemen throwing fish at them, are explored and the question remains what the life of an older (but still young), rich widow must heave been in Venice at the end of the 15th century. It is not surprising that such a woman is glowed with fire when she can see from her room a young man p***ing in the canal. The sex-scenes in the movie are good and made with taste; there is even a scene where Angela is near of having a sexual affair with her servant who tries to console her mistress. This story of a one night, two lovers affair remembers me of the Decamerone because of its freshness and sweetness. |

Weeds: Season 4
I haven’t been a dedicated fan of a TV collections since Moonlighting back in the 80’s but I’m totally hooked on Weeds. Mary-Louise Parker plays the role of Nancy Botwin perfectly! As a widowed housewife trying to maintain an upper class lifestyle for herself and her two sons by selling weed, she obviously encounters problems maintaining her two roles….mother and drug dealer. Parker really emphasizes this “dual role” and she does it brilliantly….you’ll find yourself really feeling for the character and cheering for her all the way. Elizabeth Perkins in the role of Celia, Nancy’s close friend, is phenomenal. Watch her carefully in this show, her brilliant acting and her characters dry sarcastic nature provides much of the shows’ comedic value but it is sometimes very subtle. I personally think Perkins deserves a supporting Emmy for this one. In short, Jenji Kohan has scored big-time with Weeds and I hope it enjoys a good long run on Showtime….I’m definitely a dedicated fan! My only suggestion….episodes should be an hour long!
